Undefeated Jonathan 'Mantequilla' Gonzalez (18-0-1 and 14 KOs) has returned to training ahead of a planned return in 2016 where he hopes to get a title shot at 154 pounds or middleweight.

Gonzalez hopes to fight in late February or early March, looking to return to the ratings as soon as possible.

Incidentally, José Peñagarícano said Gonzalez has and open door with the WBC and at some point could challenge for thee FECARBOX title at 154 pounds. The belt is currently vacant.

For various reasons, he was inactive in 2015 and on two occasions his fights fell through at the last moment.

"We are training. There were a few times where I was positioned to fight but it never happened. There was outstanding dates but nothing happened. My first fight will be at 163, then down to 160 and if I can - then go to 154. Those two divisions are filled with great fighters," Gonzalez stated prior to his training at the gym Barrio Obrero.

Gonzalez, who made his debut at age 19, wanted to be a world champion within four years but time was obviously lost. There are some very lucrative options around, like Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, Miguel Cotto and Gennady Golovkin and others.

"Those are the divisions where there is a lot of money and good quality. I was told that this first fight will be comfortable and then the next one against someone reputable. And then keep making big fights. If a fight is given for the title, even better. I am working hard with [trainer] Javier Arce and want to keep losing weight. I debuted at 19 and now I'm 26. I have to work hard and devote myself to be champion. That's what many people expect of me," he added.

The hard-hitting fighter is managed by Al Haymon.

"In these divisions I can fight anybody. I've never said no to any rival. I'm sure that if in the future I have a fight with [Canelo] - I'm going to win. Golovkin is the strongest at 160 but if I'd fight him. This is going to be my year and I will stay afloat," he said.
