John Ryder wants to keep his competition at a high level following a unanimous decision defeat against Canelo Alvarez.

The 34-year-old British southpaw Ryder (32-6, 18 KOs) has named Gennadiy Golovkin, Jaime Munguia, and Edgar Berlanga as the set of desired opponents he’d prefer to face.

“I’d love to, I’ve proved I’ll go anywhere,” Ryder told ProBox TV. “I’ve gone in there and fought Canelo, who I’m a massive fan of, and Golovkin’s no different. I’ve been a massive fan of him since when I very first turned pro … I’m sure Golovkin’s got a few more miles on the clock, [he’s] a bit older as well. But listen, they say the power’s the last thing to go, so I’m sure he will still have that massive punch power.

“[Munguia] – that’s definitely a fight I’d be open to. Berlanga, I think he needs to take care of business [against Jason Quigley]. Listen, I want these big fights, at the world level. I’m not willing to drop down just yet.”

The super middleweight Ryder had a spirited fight against Alvarez and came on strong late despite battling through a broken nose and a knockdown.

After having beaten Daniel Jacobs and Zach Parker before the Alvarez fight,  Ryder certainly has earned the opportunity to fight another high-profile foe.

Promoter Matchoom Boxing should be able to strike a deal to land either Golovkin, Munguia, or Berlanga for Ryder for a bout on DAZN, especially since the budget previously allocated for Alvarez is free due to the Mexican star committing to stage his next fight with Premier Boxing Champions and Showtime.

“I think [my reputation massively] rose in boxing, but it taught me a bit about myself as well,” said Ryder. “I’d never been dropped before, never had a broken nose, I faced a lot of new hurdles in that fight [versus Alvarez], but I overcame them. I just look forward to going again, with the opportunity.”
