White Plains, N.Y. - John Duddy 8-0 (8 KO’s) scored an easy knockout victory over his last minute replacement opponent Chuck Orso 4-6 (3 KO’s).  The end came at 1:37 of the first round when a good right stunned Orso.  “As soon as he went down, I thought this guy doesn’t want to be here at all” said Duddy after the fight.  It was clear that Chuck Orso did not want to be there but Duddy was more than happy to be there.  After the fight John was happy to pose for photos with his fans.  He is a true Irish gentleman.

The fight card was promoted by Northeast Promotions.  It was the return of boxing at the Westchester County Center after an absence of six years.  A full house was on hand to see an exciting night of boxing.

In the co-feature, undefeated Bronx native Joey Rios 10-0 (6 KO’s) dominated a very game Chad Lawshe  8-4 (3KO’s) and won a unanimous 8 round decision.  Rios dropped Lawshe twice in the third round.  The Rios camp had sold over 500 tickets to see Joey fight and could be heard chanting “Joey, Joey” throughout the fight and Rios did not disappoint.  The judges had it 80-70, 79-71, and 79-71.

On the undercard, local White Plains girl Ann Marie Saccurato 8-0-2 (3 KO’s) scored a unanimous decision over Victoria Cisneros 3-2 (0 KO’s) in a 6 round Welterweight fight.  Saccurato had world class trainer Hector Roca in her corner.  Hector has drawn a lot of media attention recently .  Hector trained Academy award winner and again nominated , Hillary Swank for her role as a boxer in the critically acclaimed movie, Million Dollar Baby.  Saccurato did a nice job of marketing after the win as she threw many tee shirts and key chains into the crowd.  In other action, Russel Jordan 10-2 (6 KO’s) scored a unanimous decision over Darien Ford 10-8 (4 KO’s) in a 6 round welterweight fight.  Delvin Rodriguez 13-1 (7 KO’s) scored a first round TKO over Mikel Williams 2-5-4 (1 KO).

The worst fight on paper turned out to be the best fight of the night.  Kerion Armour 1-0-1 (1 KO) and Max Daguizan 0-0-2 (0 KO’s) slugged it out from the opening bell in a four round Bantamweight fight.  Both fighters were hit with a tremendous amount of power punches.  I felt Armour was the aggressor of the fight and connected on more punches than Daquizan.  The result was a majority draw.  At the end of four rounds, the fans really appreciated the effort of these fighters and gave them a rousing cheer.

Overall I think it was a successful night of boxing.  Northeast Promotions did an excellent job.  The Westchester County Center was an excellent venue for boxing in the past and after last nights success, I think it will be an exciting venue in the future.  Let’s hope that Northeast will be back soon and often.
