Dignity Health Sports Park, Carson, California - For the vacant World Boxing Association Continental featherweight title and the vacant WBO Global featherweight title, Joet Gonzalez (23-0, 14 KOs) broke down and stopped Manuel Avila (23-2-1, 8 KOs) in the sixth round.

Gonzalez is on the verge of a title shot. He's ranked at number two by the WBO. He's managed by Frank Espinoza, who also handles the WBO world champion at 126, Oscar Valdez.

According to Gonzalez, Golden Boy Promotions has promised him a world title shot in September.

Avila suffered his first career defeat back in May of 2017, when he lost a ten round unanimous decision to Joseph Diaz on the undercard to Canelo Alvarez-Amir Khan.

He bounced back with a decision win in November 2017, but then stayed out of the ring until this past March, when he fought to a split draw with Jose Gonzalez.

It took a few rounds for Gonzalez to find his groove. Avila was boxing nicely and it wasn't until the fourth when Gonzalez began to connect with some heavy leather.

In the fifth, Gonzalez continued to land punishing punches on Avila, who was using the entire ring to move away from the incoming bombs. Gonzalez cut off the ring and landed a series of punches to drop Avila against the ropes - as time ran out in the round.

The sixth round was more of the same, with Gonzalez coming forward and battering Avila with hard punches - and the corner of Avila threw in the towel to stop the fight.
