Top Rank presented their second show on Thursday night since the covid-19 pandemic shut down the sports world.  In the main event, Jessie Magdaleno improved to 28-1 with a disqualification victory over Yenifel Vicente (36-5-2).

The former super bantamweight champion got off to a quick start, dropping Vicente in the first round and again in the 5th round during the foul marred contest.

"We knew that he was a tough fighter. If you look at his record he has 36 wins of which 30 are by knockout. Jessie was boxing him, using his lateral movement and got out to a big lead on points.  Vicente got desperate and you saw the (low) shots he was throwing," Capetillo told BoxingScene.com after the fight.

During the broadcast, commentators Andre Ward and Timothy Bradley critiqued Magdaleno, saying that he needed to make a statement in the fight in order to prove he was ready for another title shot.  The statement they were looking for was a knockout victory.

Capetillo said that after Magdaleno got out to the big lead that he instructed his fighter to box smart and not take many chances.

"When you add the 2 extra points for the knockdowns and all of the point deductions we knew we had the fight in the bag.  I told him to keep boxing him and fight smart. I don't understand all the criticism that he is getting. Vicente is a strong fighter with a lot of knockouts.  Jessie has power too and when you have 2 power punchers the first one who connects can end the fight. It didn't make any sense for him to risk getting caught," Capetillo explained. "Jessie has been out of the ring since August so it has been a while. I thought he put on a good fight and to me all of this criticism isn't justified. He was in with a good fighter who has never been stopped."
