LAS VEGAS – Janibek Alimkhanuly abused a brave but faded former middleweight title-holder Saturday night.

The promising middleweight from Kazakhstan stopped Hassan N’Dam in the eighth round of their scheduled 10-rounder on the pay-per-view portion of the Terence Crawford-Shawn Porter undercard. Alimkhanuly knocked N’Dam to the canvas late in the third round and basically battered him for seven-plus rounds before referee Kenny Bayless called a halt to the action at 2:40 of the eighth round at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino’s Michelob ULTRA Arena.

The 28-year-old Alimkhanuly, a native of Kazakhstan, improved to 11-0 and produced his seventh knockout. The 37-year-old N’Dam, a native of Cameroon, lost inside the distance for the third time in his 17-year pro career and slipped to 38-6 (21 KOs).

Alimkhanuly nailed N’Dam with a left uppercut that backed him into his own corner with under a minute remaining in the eighth round. Sensing the end was near, Alimkhanuly landed another hard left hand and continued to throw hard shots at N’Dam until Bayless understandably stepped between them.

Alimkhanuly hammered away at N’Dam when N’Dam was backed into the ropes in the final minute of the seventh round.

Yet another Alimkhanuly left hand knocked N’Dam backward about 45 seconds into the sixth round. Alimkhanuly also landed several hard in the final minute of the sixth round, but N’Dam just kept shaking his head, as if Alimkhanuly couldn’t really hurt him.

Alimkhanuly rocked N’Dam with a left uppercut that knocked him off balance about 20 seconds into the fifth round. Alimkhanuly snapped back N’Dam’s head with four unanswered left hands in the final 30 seconds of the fifth round, but a determined N’Dam wouldn’t go down.

A straight left by Alimkhanuly wobbled N’Dam with about 30 seconds remaining in the fourth round. He buckled N’Dam’s legs again about 15 seconds later with another left hand.

Alimkhanuly buzzed N’Dam with a right hook in the middle minute of the third round. That shot seemed to do damage to N’Dam’s left eye.

Alimkhanuly attempted to finish off the former champion in a neutral corner. Bayless appeared to be close to stepping in to stop the bout, but he gave N’Dam more time. Alimkhanuly sent N’Dam to the canvas with a left hand just before the third round ended.

N’Dam reached his feet, though, and the bell sounded to end the round a few seconds thereafter.

Alimkhanuly landed several straight lefts during the second round, when N’Dam attempted to keep his distance from his hard-hitting opponent.

Bayless warned Alimkhanuly for hitting N’Dam low about 45 seconds into their fight. Alimkhanuly connected with a straight left hand with 1:10 to go in the opening round and smiled at N’Dam.

Alimkhanuly stared at N’Dam as he turned and walked toward his corner following the first round.
