NEW YORK – Ivan Golub extended his winning streak Tuesday against perhaps his toughest opponent since he suffered his only professional loss.

The Ukrainian southpaw scored two knockdowns against Eric Walker, one apiece in the fifth and ninth rounds, and won a 10-round unanimous decision on Triller Fight Club’s Michael Hunter-Mike Wilson undercard at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater. Judges Mark Consentino (96-92), Frank Lombardi (97-91) and Kevin Morgan (98-90) all scored Golub a comfortable winner of their fight for the vacant USBA welterweight title.

Brooklyn Golub (20-1, 15 KOs) has won seven straight fights since Jamontay Clark beat him by unanimous decision in an eight-rounder in June 2017.

Walker (20-4, 9 KOs), of Plaquemine, Louisiana, has lost back-to-back bouts. Israil Madrimov (7-0, 5 KOs), a top contender from Uzbekistan, beat Walker by unanimous decision in his previous fight, a 12-rounder last August 15 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Golub stung Walker with a straight left with about 45 seconds to go in the 10th round. Walker didn’t have much snap on his punches in the final round, when Golub was the more active and accurate puncher.

A counter left Golub made Walker reset his feet 45 seconds into the ninth round. Golub knocked Walker into the ropes with another left hand that landed with just under a minute remaining in the ninth round.

Golub hit Walker on the back of his head, which referee Eddie Claudio counted as Golub’s second knockdown of the fight with about 20 seconds on the clock in the ninth round.

Walker’s right hand moved Golub backward barely a minute into the eighth round. A right uppercut by Golub stunned Walker just after the midway mark of the eighth round.

Walker tried to keep his distance for the remainder of the eighth round.

A straight left by Golub backed up Walker early in the seventh round. Walker and Golub traded hard shots to the head and body during a thoroughly entertaining second half of the seventh round.

Walker went down about 55 seconds into the sixth round, but Claudio ruled that Golub pushed him to the canvas. Walked recovered from a knockdown late in the fifth round by then and made that sixth round competitive.

Walker caught Golub with a right hand a few seconds before the sixth round ended.

Golub blasted Walker with a right hook that knocked Walker to the canvas with just over 30 seconds to go in the firth round. Walker reached his feet and made it to the end of the round

Golub connected with a left to Walker’s body about 40 seconds into the fifth round. Golub blasted Walker with a straight left with about 1:05 to go in the fifth round.

Walker drilled Golub with a right hand and quickly moved out of Golub’s punching range about 1:10 into the fourth round. With just over 20 seconds to go in the fourth round, Walker caught Golub with a left hook to the side of his head.

Golub landed a jab and then a straight left that backed up Walker with just under 50 seconds to go in the second round. Earlier in the second round, Walker nailed Golub with a right hand that knocked him off balance.

Golub landed various body shots during an opening round in which Walker had difficulty landing clean punches on the southpaw.
