Mr. Benedetto Montella of Italy resigned from his post as IBF European Representative on August 1, 2008 after more than two decades of working with the organization.  Montella indicated his reasons for resigning were due to business and personal matters.  "My resignation is mainly due to my first professional activity in the tourism industry, which keeps very me busy, particularly during April through October and thus not allowing me to properly follow the boxing activity. In addition, some personal and family matters have also led me to make this decision," stated Montella.

President Muhammad has accepted Benedetto Montella's resignation noting, "It is with sadness that I accepted Mr. Montella’s resignation as IBF European Representative.  I thank him on behalf of the IBF for more than 20 years of dedication and hard work, which the organization has directly benefited from.  His efforts also greatly served the boxers from the European region.  I wish him good health and much, much success in any future endeavors."  Ms. Muhammad added, “ Mr. Montella did not indicate what he will do in the boxing business in the future, but I expect that he will still be involved with the sport.”

Montella was appointed to the position by former IBF President, Robert W. Lee.  Benedetto Montella handled 30-40 regional titles in Europe and Africa yearly for IBF Youth, Mediterranean, InterContinental and Eastern/Western European titles.
