Jarrett Hurd clearly took some confidence from how Jermell Charlo fought against Austin Trout.

Charlo dropped Trout twice, once apiece in the third and ninth rounds, yet settled for a majority-decision win in their 12-rounder Saturday night in Los Angeles. Hurd, who could fight Charlo next in a 154-pound title unification fight, stopped Trout following the 10th round October 14 in Brooklyn.

“He fight me ANY way like that, he’s getting stop!,” Hurd stated in a Tweet late Saturday night. Hurd added the hashtag #KeepRunningYourMouth, a reference to Charlo’s catchphrase following impressive knockouts of Charles Hatley and Erickson Lubin in back-to-back bouts before he fought Trout.

Hurd, the only opponent to beat Trout by knockout or technical knockout, knew Trout would give Charlo a much tougher fight than Hatley or Lubin.

The veteran southpaw has lost three of his last four fights, but those losses have come against three unbeaten champions – Jermall Charlo, Hurd and Jermell Charlo. The 32-year-old Trout, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, previously lost decisions to former 154-pound champions Canelo Alvarez and Erislandy Lara.

“Soon as he get some real competition in front of him,” Hurd Tweeted in reference to Jermell Charlo, “that KO streak goes out the window.”

In another Tweet, Hurd asked, “And y’all really think @TwinCharlo could beat me?”

After defeating Trout, Hurd (22-0, 15 KOs) dropped Lara in the 12th round and edged him by split decision April 7 at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. By beating Lara (25-3-2, 14 KOs), the Accokeek, Maryland, native added the WBA and IBO super welterweight titles to his IBF junior middleweight championship.

Now that Houston’s Charlo (31-0, 15 KOs) has topped Trout (31-5, 17 KOs), the WBC super welterweight champion will welcome a showdown with Hurd.

“This something that Trout gonna be able to tell you right here,” Charlo told Showtime’s Brian Custer in the ring following his win at Staples Center. “Trout gonna tell you who gonna win that fight because if Hurd sit in front of me, if Hurd sit in front of me, it’s – Trout moved right now. That’s why he survived 12. But if Hurd stood in front of me and just take them shots, I guarantee you. I guarantee you [I beat him]. So yeah, I wanna unify. And I’ll do it right here in L.A.”
