Washington - In a battle for the WBA "regular" lightweight title, Gervonta Davis (28-0, 26 KOs) stopped previously undefeated Hector Luis Garcia (16-1, 10 KOs) in eight rounds, when Garcia did not come out for the ninth.

After the fight, Garcia indicated that he was unable to see from his right eye.

“When I got the shot to my head in the final round, that’s when I couldn’t see from my eye,” said Garcia, who owns the WBA super featherweight world title. “I didn’t know where I was when he hit me with that shot. My vision is back but my head still hurts. I couldn’t see from my right eye. It was going well up until that point. I was picking my shots.”

The action was give and take until the last two rounds, when Davis picked up the pace and began to land his harder punches on Garcia, who displayed a very durable chin for most of the contest.

During the eight, Davis rocked Garcia badly with a serious of heavy blows to buckle his knees. Once the round ended, Garcia seemed to be in a daze as he went back to his corner. He advised his trainer that his right eye had no vision - which quickly led to the fight being waved off.

Garcia had a banner 2022 - when he became a player after being an unknown. He started the year as a massive underdog when he dominated and defeated unbeaten Chris Colbert. That win was followed up by a world title victory, as Garcia picked up another dominant victory with a strong unanimous decision win over Roger Gutierrez.
