Former WBA cruiserweight world champion Guillermo "El Felino" Jones is pleading with the World Boxing Association to shed off some time on his two year suspension for testing positive for a banned substance.

On May 17, 2013, Jones knocked out Lebedev in the eleventh round, but following the contest he tested positive for furosemide, a banned weight cutting agent. The WBA returned the WBA title to Lebedev and ordered a rematch - although the official decision of the outcome remained. The rematch was scheduled for this past April and Jones once again tested positive for the same substance and the fight was canceled only hours before the two fighters were set to enter the ring.

"Today I am sending a letter to the World Boxing Association to request permission to enter the heavyweight division. I spoke with Mr. (Michael) Prado and Aurelio Fiengo (members of the WBA) and they told me to do a letter asking for permission," Jones said.

"I want to fight and I see big difference in this change. You know that when I was fighting at cruiserweight (max weight of 200 pounds) I had to lose weight, but at heavyweight I only have to maintain my strength. For me it would be easier because I have the knowledge and quality to be crowned champion at any time."

The fighter is 42-years-old, and with a solid record of 39-3-2, 31KOs, and says there is no contemplation of retirement on his mind.
