According to promotional company Patriot, which handles Fedor Chudinov, their boxer signed a contract to face George Groves - for the vacant WBA super middleweight title - on the date of May 27 in the UK. Fedor's planned interim-fight has been canceled.

Patriot indicates the fight will take place on the undercard to the Kell Brook vs. Errol Spence showdown, which takes place at Bramall Lane in Sheffield. That event has already sold 20,000 tickets, according to lead promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport.

"We just signed a contract to fight with Groves. The fight will be on May 27 in England. Fedor will fight [Groves] on show with Kell Brook. Accordingly, the fight scheduled for Fedor in Yaroslavl has been canceled. As a result, the Yaroslavl show with the participation Dmitry Chudinov has been postponed from the 22nd to the 29th of April," reported Patriot in a statement to Basil Konov.

Chudinov won the WBA world title with a twelve round decision win over German star Felix Sturm in a big upset in May 2015.

In February 2016, the German boxer got revenge in the rematch by winning a close points decision to reclaim the belt. However, it was later revealed that Sturm failed a post-fight drug test when his A-sample came back positive for illegal steroid Stanozolol.

After a long investigation by the WBA, Sturm unexpectedly vacated that belt and said he was unable to make any defenses due to a lingering injury. Many believe Sturm was looking to avoid the pending criminal investigation in Germany for steroid use. It was said that Sturm fled the country and moved to his homeland of Bosnia.

According to WBA resolution, a showdown was ordered between Groves and Chundinov.

Chudinov has a record of 14 wins (10 - KOs) in the professional ring with one defeat. On account of the 29-year-old Groves, 25 wins (18 - KOs) and three defeats.
