In response to the story titled "Margarito Mandatory" from maxboxing.com of today, the following will set forth the actual facts:

When Bob says he has "no idea" if he will participate in the purse bid, his response is tantamount to a responsible chief executive of a company not having any plans for the next quarter's business plan!  It would never happen.  Bob and his fighter realize Paul Williams is a risk, a very serious risk.  The only way they believe they can avoid Williams is to tell everyone there is no money in the fight or he's injured.

It is a disgrace after all of the demeaning insults directed to real champions and real warriors by Bob, Sergio Diaz (Margarito's manager) and especially Margarito, that he was the most feared welterweight in the world and that everyone was ducking him, if he runs away from Williams.

Either you're the best or you're not.  It appears, the truth is that sparring session Margarito and his manager deny ever happening against Paul actually did, in fact, happen and exactly the way Paul said it did!

Two false statements that we need to get out in the open immediately.  First is Bob's comment that it's not a money fight.  Completely false.  Our bid (or if they wish our offer) will bring Margarito in excess of a Seven figure payday.  A MILLION DOLLARS plus is way beyond his biggest payday ever.  And a win over Williams would put him in a position to get parity and many more MILLIONS against Miguel Cotto.

Secondly, if he's actually injured, Paul is willing to give him the time to heal, with both fighters signed bout agreements in place for when he's ready to return to the ring (pending WBO approval of extending the timeframe for Margarito's so-called rehabilitation if needed).  Paul wants Margarito to enter the ring as a true, healthy and strong Mexican Warrior.

Providing Margarito actually is sincere about defending his title against his mandatory challenger in Williams, Arum's remark as to "how they can have a purse bid" would be moot.

Margarito now has a choice to make.  His Million Dollar plus payday is there and the injury is not an impediment to defending his title against Williams in Margarito's next immediate bout.

The choice is Margarito's: run as fast and far away from Paul Williams as possible or stand and fight Williams to defend his title, his honor, and more importantly, the long list of proud Mexican Warriors who ran from no one.

There are no excuses now.
