Australia's Daniel Geale has been given little chance by bookmakers and the US media in capturing the International Boxing Organizations and World Boxing Association belts from champion Gennady Golovkin at New York's Madison Square Garden.

But, with a tsunami of support from his Australian fans via social media, the Launceston-born middleweight is quietly confident of pulling off what could be the upset of the year on Saturday (Sunday AEST).

"It has been pretty awesome how people have responded," Geale told AAP on the eve of the bout.

"Australians see that I'm fighting in such a huge place, Madison Square Garden, against a good opponent as well.

"Everyone is getting behind me and wants me to bring the titles home."

Geale was controversially stripped by the WBA of the belt he earned in his heroic 2012 upset of champion Felix Sturm in Germany when he opted to fight old foe Anthony Mundine instead of face then-challenger Golovkin.

Golovkin snapped up the belt and defended it with a succession of brutal knockout victories.

Golovkin, who has knocked out almost 90 per cent of his opponents, will also be defending his International Boxing Organisation belt against Geale.

Las Vegas and British bookmakers have the Tasmanian at blown out odds and have him as high as $9.00 to upset the undefeated Golovkin, with most expecting Geale won't survive the 12 rounds.

Gamblers betting on Golovkin will get little in return with the Kazakh's price at a meagre $1.06 for the win.

Australian oddsmakers have seen a flood of money for Geale, although Golovkin is still the short-priced favourite.

Centrebet has Golovkin at $1.16, while Geale's price has come down to a more respectable $5.20.

US boxing media members almost unanimously select Golovkin as the winner.
