On May 7th, Frankie Gomez blanked Mauricio Herrera over ten rounds at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The fight was featured as part of the Saul Alvarez-Amir Khan HBO Pay-Per-View undercard. He's now in the process of training again at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, California.

"He's doing good, he's showing up everyday," said his trainer, Freddie Roach, in a recent interview with BoxingScene.com.

"He went six rounds yesterday, his weight's still a little bit heavy we're trying to make that go right now. But he's still about 160 pounds but he's doing well in sparring. I want him at 145 (pounds) for his next fight."

After the victory over Herrera, Gomez (21-0, 13 KO's) promised Roach he'd be back in the gym within a week. Well, that didn't occur and he was absent from the Wild Card for a few months

"He acts like a world champion and world champions can take time off for big fights and so forth. He was in a big fight, yes, but he's not a world champion. So I was disappointed, yes."

As for when he'll be in action again, Golden Boy Promotions will most likely want to check his weight (as they did before his last fight) before scheduling anything for him.

"I would say we have at least two months to get ready,"stated Roach.
