NEW YORK – Frank Sanchez scoffed at Joey Dawejko’s knockout prediction because the unbeaten Cuban believed he had every advantage imaginable over Dawejko.

Sanchez displayed those advantages throughout their unremarkable, 10-round heavyweight fight Saturday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The 6-feet-4, 222½-pound Sanchez skillfully out-boxed the durable Dawejko and won a unanimous decision in the first of three fights FOX televised as part of a tripleheader that featured heavyweights Adam Kownacki and Robert Helenius in the main event.

The 27-year-old Sanchez won decisively on the scorecards of judges Ken Ezzo (100-90), Julie Lederman (100-90) and Kevin Morgan (98-92).

Las Vegas’ Sanchez (15-0, 11 KOs, 1 NC) mostly used a six-inch height advantage, a consistent jab and athleticism to out-box the stocky, slower Dawejko (20-8-4, 11 KOs). He often kept Dawejko from getting inside on him and occasionally landed overhand rights.

Sanchez never appeared to hurt Dawejko, who has lost inside the distance just once.

Philadelphia’s Dawejko is 1-4 in his past five fights, but he had faced a higher level of opposition than Sanchez.

Prior to losing to Sanchez, Dawejko had been beaten by former IBF champ Charles Martin, world championship challenger Bryant Jennings, fringe contender Sergey Kuzmin, and veterans Amir Mansour and Andrey Fedosov. Dawejko also fought to a draw with Jarrell Miller.

Aware he was way behind on the cards, Dawejko tried to get inside to land an impactful punch throughout the 10th round. Referee Shada Murdaugh called for a brief break with 31 seconds remaining in the bout because Dawejko held his head after an accidental clash with Sanchez.

Sanchez nailed Dawejko with two hard, right hands as Dawejko backed into a neutral corner just before the ninth round ended. Dawejko was able to sneak in a right of his own between those two shots.
