Mexican legend Julio César Chávez went public to defend his son Julio César Chávez Jr. after the stoppage defeat he suffered against Daniel Jacobs.

Chavez published a tweet on the social networks where he says he does not agree with the criticisms of his son.

Chavez Jr. was stopped in five rounds by Jacobs, after the Mexican star refused to continue fighting beyond the fight round.

Chavez Jr. claimed that he suffered a fractured nose that prevented his ability to breathe.

That fans in Phoenix went bonkers at Chavez Jr's decision to stop fighting - and they began to pelt the ring with bottles, cups and other garbage.

Chavez Jr. has a bad track record in high profile fights. This fight was no different, as he was suspended in Nevada for refusing to take a drug test - forcing the fight to get moved from Las Vegas to Arizona. Then he failed to make the super middleweight limit, forcing the fight to get contested at light heavyweight.

Chavez Sr. believes the fans and the critics were far too harsh on his son.

"With all due respect to the fans of Phoenix, Arizona - right now I disagree with you, my son was making a competitive fight and was winning," Chavez wrote. "Unfortunately, a head clash and an elbow comes and my son has a broken nose and will now undergo surgery."

But another legendary Mexican fighter, Erik Morales, took issue with the comments by Chavez Sr.

"When you are hurt or suffer a fracture you can fight," Morales said. "The decision not to fight should be respected, but the decision of those who paid to see a show must also be respected.

"You can not disrespect the fans and journalists with loud words because they think differently, the fans should be respected."
