The president of Golden Boy Promotions, Eric Gomez, has revealed that his company is working on a unification showdown between junior flyweight world champions Elwin Soto and Felix Alvarado, which is finalized would take place on a date in the first half of 2021.

Soto captured the WBO title in June 2019, with an upset stoppage of Angel Acosta.

He's already racked up three wins since then - with a twelve round unanimous decision over Edward Heno in October of 2019, a first round blowout of Javier Alejandro Rendon in February of last year, following by a twelve round unanimous decision over Carlos Buitrago in October.

"We are talking about a unification fight for Elwin Soto, with Felix Alvarado, who is another champion of the junior flyweights. We really like the fight. Both Soto and Alvarado are in, we are looking at it for April or May," Gomez told ESPN Deportes.

Alvarado (36-2, 31 KOs), captured the vacant IBF title in October 2018 with a knockout of Randy Petalcorin in seven rounds.

He won a twelve round unanimous decision over Reiya Konishi in May of 2019, but then was inactive for a long time - partly due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

He came back to the ring last month, as part of the Ryan Garcia-Luke Campbell undercard in Texas, and blasted out former champion DeeJay Kriel in ten rounds.

Alvarado, who is widely regarded as one the most dangerous punchers in the lower weight classes, has won his last eighteen fights, mostly by knockout, after suffering back to back decision losses to Kazuto Ioka and Juan Carlos Reveco between 2013 and 2014.
