By Marcin Korfanty

In a brief interview with BoxingScene.com/boxingnews.pl, Eddie Chambers spoke about his recent loss against Wladimir Klitschko and answered a question about a possible fight with Tomasz Adamek. Beside that he commented on Adamek’s last fight and his potential match-up with a friend of his – Steve Cunningham.

Marcin Korfanty: Are you Ok after your last fight against Klitschko?

Eddie Chambers: Yes - I am fine, I was fine even right after the fight, it was just one of those situation when your body is exhausted and tired, from a hard fight, and things happens – I took a shot.

BoxingScene.com: Could you comment on that fight?

E.C.: Well it was a great opportunity and great experience for someone like me. It was my first title appearance and it could not be against a better opponent. I have leaned a lot by coming in there, now I know what it means, what you have to do and how you have to be mentally prepared. It made it easier for me from now on to fight on any level because I know what top level feels like.

BoxingScene.com: All the experts say that your biggest advantage is your speed however Wladimir did manage to eliminate it – if there would be a rematch, what would you change in it?

E.C: Well one thing is for sure, even though I have the speed advantage and doing things like that, I could not let Wladimir dictate the distance – I would have to almost maul him and get right on him

BoxingScene.com: At the moment are you still training or are you having a break from boxing?

E.C: I am on a break but at the same time I am trying to work out, got to keep my body in shape, I do not want to get away to far from boxing. I want to be someone in shape both in mental and physical condition to go out there and compete.

BoxingScene.com: When we can expect to see you again?

E.C: Give me about  4 months and I can start talking about next fight. One thing you cannot do in such a situation is start fighting to soon because I am not healed mentally. Maybe physically I am healed and I am ready in 100% or even 150% but still I am not mentally healed after the fight against Wladimir. I need to take some time out and let everything get back on, then I will get back in there.

BoxingScene.com: In your opinion who is the fastest boxer in heavyweight division right now?

E.C: Of course I am – I am buying it to myself, but beside of me Wladimir has a decent hand speed and his strength and explosiveness makes him much better. I would also say that British fighter David Haye has got good hand speed as well.

BoxingScene.com: In your opinion who from the top heavyweights can win with Klitschko at the moment?

E.C: Well I must say, it would be difficult for anyone to beat Wladimir because of what he has done over time to perfect his imperfection. He is better in the distance than he has ever been, he is as strong as he has ever been  I am pretty sure. However I would say that anyone who is determined and wants to win it as bad as I do, can go out there and pull up a big upset, I think that there is a possibility that David Haye can do it. If I would get another opportunity t have a shot on that title I think I would do it. Still I think it would be very difficult for anybody to beat him at the current moment of his career – I am not saying that he is extraordinary good – it is just what he does, what he learned over time he has perfected.

BoxingScene.com: Changing the subject – I am assuming you have seen the fight between Tomasz Adamek and Chris Arreola – could you comment on that fight?

E.C:  It was a very interesting fight, it was exciting, I would say there was a certain amount of skills involved, buy later on it became a brawl in a certain of ways it was a street fight. Tomasz Adamek found a way to box and to use his technique and ability, that he requires as the smaller fighter to his advantage and beat Chris on that night.

BoxingScene.com: In your opinion is Tomasz Adamek capable of winning the heavyweight title?

E.C: Just because he beat Chris it does not mean he will beat Klitschko, but at the same time styles make a fight and if his style is adequate to fight with either Klitschko brothers or David Haye, he could become the heavyweight champion of the world. The guy has the pedigree he has been a champion in other divisions, he fought the best fighters and done well. Now we got to see if he has the ability to beat one of the reigning champions, but still we need to see what happens when he enters the ring with them.

BoxingScene.com: Did you get an offer to fight Adamek?

E.C:  No , not yet, that would be a great opportunity for me for a comeback, but that is a bigger fight, it is not good fight for a immediate comeback. However knowing me and my personality I would accept it, but I do not know if that would be such a good idea that fast. But then again I only want to fight with the best and Tomasz Adamek is the guy that presents the biggest interests for me I will take it.

BoxingScene.com: I would gladly see that fight.

E.C: It would be a great fight, a very skilled one, with a lot of more speed than we are used to see in heavyweight division.

BoxingScene.com: Your friend Steve Cunningham will fight Troy Ross very soon. How would you estimate his chances against Troy Ross?

E.C: He has got a great chance in beating anyone in cruiserweight division. He is extremely talented and a big guy for cruiserweight, who is very fast. He makes you fight at a pace that most of all are not used to fight in, because he moves constantly, keeps a jab at your face and you have to keep up in such a pace, so I am not sure if Troy Ross is kind of those people that can deal with that. Then again he is the champion, he is tough, he is one of the top cruiserweight fighters in the world but Steve is definitely going to have that title again.

BoxingScene.com: So do you think Cunningham is the best fighter in cruiserweight division right now?

E.C: I think that at that particular time I have to say he is right there, even though he does not have the belt – he had the belt before but lost it to Adamek. Even with his loss to Adamek you could see that he can take it and if he would not be dropped a few times it would have been a different fight. He is tough, so he can come back from being down, he has all the credits to be a champion and it is only a matter of time when he wins a belt.

BoxingScene.com: Steve told us that he may consider moving up to heavyweight division – if there would be a possibility would you accept a fight with him?

E.C: Honestly I cannot say that I would not, but friends are friends outside the ring and when you enter the ring it becomes a business situation. However if I would accept the fight with Steve it would have to mean something it would have to be something bigger than just another fight, something bigger that “Oh he just fought Cunningham and got a good win because he was a champion in cruiserweight” – it would have to be more than that, it would have to be a championship fight and we would both have and understanding in that.

BoxingScene.com: Who would be a favorite in such a fight?

E.C: I am not sure – I have been in heavyweight for my whole career, Steve has been a world champion before in cruiserweight. I would like to say that I would be the favorite but Steve used to be a champion and you have to remember that I am a small guy, I am not big for the heavyweight division, so he does not have the fear of the size – only the skill. We already know that Steve has got plenty of skills, which would make my odds  drop eve though I have fought in heavyweight for my whole career. I do not mind being the underdog though.

BoxingScene.com: Thank you for the interview – wish you big come back and even bigger fights.
