The World Championships Committee of the World Boxing Association has ordered negotiations to be conducted for a mandatory fight between Jack Culcay, who holds the "regular" version of the WBA's super welterweight championship, and unbeaten former WBO king Demetrius Andrade.

The winner will earn the one ranking of the sanctioning body and come closer to a world title shot against WBA/IBO beltholder Erislandy Lara.

Culcay won the interim black-gold scepter on May 9, 2015, when he defeated the German contender Maurice Weber by way of unanimous decision and made two successful defenses.

On May 21 of this year, the Championships Committee of the WBA decided to promote Culcay to the status of "regular" champion in the division for which the deadline for a mandatory defense is due on September 20, 2016. Lara holds the "super" title at the weight.

Meanwhile, Andrade has managed to stay on top of the world rankings thanks to his decisive victories, the last three of them by knockout. In addition, he is a gladiator who are unbeaten and in 2014 held the middleweight belt of the World Boxing Organization before he was stripped due to inactivity.

Culcay has a record of 22 wins, one loss and 11 knockouts. While Andrade has won 23 victories and 16 of those opponents were knocked out.

The respective teams were duly notified of the decision and have 30 days to reach an agreement before the fight will be sent to a purse bid.
