George Groves came up short in his third attempt to win a world title after a split-decision loss to Badou Jack, who retained his WBC super-middleweight crown in Las Vegas.

Groves overcame a first-round knockdown at the MGM Grand and fought valiantly in the first half of the bout but his Swedish-born opponent was the superior fighter in the championship rounds.

While the Briton earned the nod on one of the judge's scorecards 114-113, Jack took the other two by scores of 115-112 and 116-111 to hand Groves the third loss of his professional career - following a pair of world-title defeats to compatriot Carl Froch.

Despite the loss, IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale might still consider a rematch with Groves, but insists he would have to accept a tiny percentage of the purse. Groves is only man to beat DeGale in the pro ranks and also won a decision over him in the amateur ranks.

"Wrong move, wrong move," he told Ringside Reaction. "Every dog has his day. Funny how things work out.

"As I said, I'm in boxing for the big fights and if the British public want it and demand it, let's do it. But we'll have to negotiate the purse. Maybe 90 [percent for me]… 10 percent to him. We'll see."

"He's got to ask himself some questions. Can he mix it at the top level with the elite fighters? I don't think he can."
