Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar de la Hoya is expecting Saul "Canelo" Alvarez to score a knockout victory in his upcoming rematch with IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight world champion Gennady Golovkin.

The Canelo vs. Golovkin rematch will take place on September 15 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

In the first contest, which took place in September 2017, the boxers fought to a controversial twelve round split draw.

This time around, De La Hoya says a knockout victory is needed - there can be no decision.

Canelo and Golovkin have a very tense relationship right now - after GGG accused the Mexican boxer of being a drugs cheat, and Golovkin's head trainer Abel Sanchez has consistently ripped Canelo for his tactics in the first contest.

"Canelo has to knock him out and convince that he is the best. This fight became a personal issue for him because of what Golovkin and his team have said, Saul will go out with everything that night," said De La Hoya said.

"I'm sure the knockout will come in his favor and he will be the best in the world, the best in boxing. It is a fact that the Mexican public wants to see a knockout from their fighter and Canelo is going to give them [a knockout] that night.

"He is younger, in the first fight, Canelo respected him too much. Now he will enter with everything from the start, the difference will be the pressure exerted and paying back for the disrespect to his opponent from the start.

"This tiebreaker that Saul will have... it involves a very personal issue for him and reminds me of what I had in the past with 'Feroz' Vargas and Mayorga. Canelo wants to knock him out and he's going to do it. I beat both of them in that manner."
