Chad Dawson is definitely taking Saturday’s fight with Tommy Karpency seriously, weighing in at a trim 173-pounds on Friday at Foxwood’s, Mashtantucket, CT.

The former three-time light heavyweight champion is keen to make an impression against the durable Karpency.

“I’m excited, fighting in my back yard. I’m looking forward to a competitive fight,” Dawson told BoxingScene.com. “I know this guy is coming to win. I’m looking forward going out there and showing the world I’ve still got it.

“I’m looking for a big win. The last fight was only one round, so I really didn’t get the rounds in. I’m looking to get the rounds in.” he said.

Dawson who only turned 32 in July knows he needs to create a bit of buzz by being impressive.

“Not necessarily wipe him out, like I say I need the rounds. First round knockout doesn’t really show anything. Hopefully this guy has the rounds in him and I can showcase that I’m still the best.”

While Dawson (32-3, 18 knockouts) isn’t looking past tomorrow night, craves one fight…and revenge.

“I’m looking at Stevenson,” said Dawson. “I want the rematch.

“Right now they’ve got him rated pretty high, he’s on the pound for pound list. I don’t know why.

“You know after the first fight I was promised a rematch, that was in the contract, he some how got out of. We both have Al (Haymon) hopefully we can make it happen.”

Dawson-Karpency is part of Showtime’s triple-header, also featuring Rances Barthelemy making the first defense of his IBF junior lightweight title against Fernando Saucedo and an interesting junior middleweights bout between Vanes Martirosyan and Willie Nelson. The DiBella Entertainment/Warriors Boxing promoted event air’s at tomorrow at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
