David Benavidez has lofty goals heading into his fight with Andre Dirrell on Sept. 28 as the co-featured fight to the Errol Spence Jr-Shawn Porter brawl.

He wants to steal the show, win the WBC super middleweight belt of which he had to vacate due to a drug suspension and then go on to be a remembered pugilist.

“I can’t wait to win the WBC belt back,” Benavidez told BoxingScene.com .”My goal is to be the best of my generation. I want to be the best in every category. I don’t care who I fight … I’m going in there against Dirrell with everything. I feel extremely strong, fast and my reflexes are great. This is the best version of David Benavidez you will see to date.”

Benavidez (21-0, 18 KOs) said plans to have Dirrell (33-1-1, 24 KOs) fall into traps with jabs, uppercuts and a body attack. Benavidez offered a brief scouting report on Dirrell, saying that he boxes pretty well and has a good uppercut, throws a good right hook to the body, and has speed. He added that the soon-to-be 35-year-old Dirrell appeared to have stiff legs while trying to brawl.

“That’s something I can definitely take advantage,” said Benavidez. “I’m very prepared and fully know what I’m walking into. Anthony Dirrell is not a dummy. I’m expecting the best out of him as he’s expecting the best out of me. We can have the fight of the night. My job is to steal the show.

“I know have to do a lot of things. I feel that I’m just as experienced and have been in big fights. The work has been done, and I can’t wait to get my title back.”
