Former champion Vic Darchinyan (40-8-1, 29KOs), 39-years-old, is planning to continue his career after suffering an eight round knockout loss this past Saturday night against WBA 'regular' featherweight champion Jesus Cuellar at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

It was the third knockout loss for Darchinyan in his last four fights. He was knocked out last year by Nicholas Walters and a year prior he suffered a knockout loss in his rematch with Nonito Donaire.

Manager and coach Eduard Gumashyanom, was not disappointed with the Darchinyan's performance and says he will continue forward with his career. He wasn't happy with Cuellar's big gain in weight. He says Darchinyan was 131-pounds when he entered the ring, but Cuellar was 145 pounds by the time he entered the ring.

He questions who Cuellar put on nearly 20 pounds by the time of the fight, which took place in the early afternoon.

"Training went well and Vic was in pretty good shape. Another thing is that we do not pick opponents of similar weight and age. Quite the contrary. But I believe that in this fight Vic proved to everyone that he was a fighter to the bone. We are very proud of him," the trainer noted.

"The plan was to box until the late rounds. And, in principle, up until the eighth round the plan worked, everything worked. But, unfortunately, the opponent was too heavy. And I emphasis that this show was during the day even by that time Cuellar had already scored nearly 20-pounds since the weighin. If the show was, as usual, in the evening, he would have weighed more."
