Now that he has had a chance to watch a replay, Danny Garcia is even more convinced he beat Shawn Porter.

Garcia expressed his displeasure with the scoring of their fight in a Tweet late Monday night after watching Showtime’s encore broadcast of their 12-round welterweight championship match. Porter defeated Garcia by unanimous decision in a very competitive bout to win the vacant WBC 147-pound championship Saturday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

“Just watched the fight,” Garcia wrote in a Tweet. “I landed almost 50% of my punches, landed more power shots, and made him miss almost 300 punches. I won that fight.”

None of the three judges agreed with Garcia. Don Ackerman scored eight rounds for Porter (116-112), while Julie Lederman (115-113) and Eric Marlinski (115-113) each scored seven rounds for the newly crowned champion.

Las Vegas’ Porter (29-2-1, 17 KOs) threw 270 more punches than Philadelphia’s Garcia (35-2, 20 KOs), according to CompuBox’s unofficial statistics.

CompuBox counted 180-of-742 overall punches for Porter, only 12 more than Garcia landed (168-of-472). CompuBox gave Garcia credit for connecting with five more power punches (139-of-304 to 134-of-544), but recorded 17 more jabs for Porter (46-of-198 to 29-of-168).

“I thought it was close, but I thought I landed the cleaner punches,” Garcia said during the post-fight press conference. “And my defense was good. He didn’t really land no clean punches on my face. You know, he smothered and threw a lot of punches, but it wasn’t effective. And I just think the clean, effective punches – I mean, if you look at the highlights, all they’re showing is my highlights. So that’ll tell you everything.”

Garcia lost a close decision in a welterweight title fight at Barclays Center for the second time in 18 months. Keith Thurman edged Garcia by split decision in their 147-pound title unification fight in March 2017.

Thurman (28-0, 22 KOs, 1 NC) barely beat Porter in their closely contested WBA welterweight title fight at Barclays Center in June 2016. Porter captured the WBC title Thurman won from Garcia, but gave up late in April because he sustained a hand injury that further delayed his comeback from elbow surgery.
