Italian boxer Daniele Scardina, according to reports by the Italian press, is said to be in serious condition after suffering a head injury after a sparring session earlier today (February 28).

Scardina (20-1) was in training to make his debut at light heavyweight, scheduled for March 24 in Milano against Belgian Cedric Spera (17-9).

It was in training this afternoon that Scardina fell ill and was taken to a local hospital, where his condition was determined to be serious enough that the doctors had to perform immediate surgery.

Scardina suffered his only loss on May 13 of last year, when he was stopped by veteran Giovanni De Carolis in a fight made at super middleweight. A rematch was set for January but was later postponed until March. The second fight was totally scrapped when Scardina decided to move up in weight to 175-pounds.
