Damien Vazquez continued his comeback in emphatic fashion Saturday night.

The veteran bantamweight dropped Jeronil Borres three times in the sixth round and recorded a technical-knockout victory on the Emmanuel Rodriguez-Melvin Lopez undercard at MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland. Their scheduled eight-rounder was halted at 2:57 of the sixth round.

Las Vegas’ Vazquez improved to 17-3-1 and produced his 10th knockout. He has won two fights in a row since he suffered consecutive knockout defeats to WBC featherweight champ Brandon Figueroa and Rau’shee Warren.

The Philippines’ Borres (12-9-2, 6 KOs) has lost back-to-back bouts by knockout and was stopped inside the distance for the fifth time in his nine-year pro career.

Vazquez’s vicious left hand knocked Borres down for the third time in the sixth round, with just a few seconds to go in it.

Vazquez’s straight left hand sent Borres to the canvas for the second time in the sixth round, with 39 seconds remaining in it.

A left hand by Vazquez dropped Borres with 1:14 to go in the sixth round. Borres got up and continued, but he went down again later in the sixth round.

Vazquez hit Borres with a right uppercut a few seconds before the midway mark of the sixth round.

Borres’ short right connected with just under 30 seconds on the clock in the fifth round.

Borres finished a combination with a right hand up top with 1:20 to go in the fourth round. Vaquez’s left uppercut to Borres’ body briefly lifted him off the canvas 1:10 into the fourth round.

Vazquez landed a left hand as Borres backed into the ropes with just under a minute to go in the third round. Borres’ right hand backed up Vazquez 30 seconds into the third round.

A short right by Borres landed with about a minute to go in the second round. Borres blasted Vazquez with a left hook that made him stumble 45 seconds into the second round.

A left hand by Borres that landed toward the back of Vazquez’s head knocked Vazquez off balance with about 25 seconds to go in the first round. Neither fighter landed many punches during the opening three minutes.
