MMA star Cris Cyborg is still very much interested in jumping over to the sport of boxing to have a match with unified lightweight champion Katie Taylor.

Cyborg will defend her Bellator featherweight world title against Arlene Blencowe on Thursday night on the CBS Sports Network.

For several years, Cyborg has expressed her desire to enter the sport of boxing for at least one major fight.

In the past she's named former undisputed welterweight champion Cecilia Braekhus as a potential opponent, but she also likes the idea of facing Taylor as well.

"I like to have challenges. And I really want a boxing fight," Cyborg told Sky Sports.

"I really like boxing. I've tried wrestling, I've tried jiu jitsu, I've tried Muay Thai. Always when you compete in a separate sport like this, you learn a lot. I love challenges. I've got Arlene Blencowe next in MMA, but if we can do the [Taylor] fight, it will be amazing."

Back in August 2017, UFC superstar Conor McGregor made a boatload of money when he crossed over to boxing for a match with Floyd Mayweather, who was snapping a two year retirement.

Mayweather stopped McGregor in ten rounds - with the contest generating the second highest pay-per-view buyrate in combat sports history.

Cyborg has been training in boxing for years to improve her punching ability and execution of combinations.

"Before I was doing lot of boxing sparring. I was sparring pro boxer Raquel Miller (10-0). I was thinking I was going to do boxing and then we were told it was MMA, so we went back to working on that," Cyborg said.

"For me it's easy to separate [the two sports]. I really don't have to think too much. When I'm boxing I'm focused on boxing and I don't try to kick an opponent or anything."

Taylor has mentioned Cyborg as a potential foe.

If the two ever came together to negotiate a potential fight, they would have to agree on a catch-weight.

"I walk around at 170 [pounds] and fight at 145. I guess in boxing it would be 147 [welterweight] but I don't know. She's calling me out, she'll have to pick a weight," Cyborg said.
