As BoxingScene.com recently reported, the month of May will be graced by the ring return of former world heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr., who will face fellow Mexican-American Chris Arreola in what is going to be a pay-per-view headliner on FOX. The location has yet to be finalized.

The fight is expected to be the start of Ruiz's comeback path in search of being able to secure the opportunity regain the world titles.

Ruiz has been away from the ring since December 2019, when he suffered a twelve round decision loss in his rematch with Anthony Joshua.

Since that contest, he parted ways with head trainer Manny Robles and hired veteran coach Eddy Reynoso, who is best known for his work with Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.

The upcoming contest was put together as a showcase return for Ruiz.

Ruiz's opponent, the 40-year-old Arreola, is well aware of the situation.

Arreola is close to the end of his pro run and realizes that most experts have him pegged as the underdog in the contest.

However, he's very motivated to upset the odds.

"I'm very excited about the fight with another Mexican. He became the first Mexican heavyweight champion, he shocked the world. But all the pressure is on him and not on me; he wants to come back, so everyone expects him to do something impressive. Although as I said I'm trying to get to where he is," Arreola said to ES News.

"You know this is a great opportunity for me, a great opportunity for the Mexican community, for boxing fans."

Arreola has been away from the ring since August 2019, when he lost a twelve round decision in an absolute war with Adam Kownacki. The two boxers went to war, round after round. Arreola threw 1125 punches - which set a CompuBox record for a heavyweight.
