Copper Box Arena, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Hackney Wick, London - Dereck Chisora (18-4, 12KOs) stopped Edmund Gerber (23-2, 14KOs) in the fifth round to capture the vacant EBU heavyweight championship.

The fight started at a good pace, with Chisora starting to unload by the third with shots to the head and body. Gerber was cut above the eye and bleeding from those as he took punishment for most of those three minutes. Gerber came back in the fourth and rocked Chisora with a good right. Chisora used his legs and ran around the ring until he recovered and prevented Gerber from following up.

Chisora took over the fifth and started to unload as pinned Gerber against the ropes and battered him with punches to force the referee's intervention.

In a bout for the British and Commonwealth welterweight titles, Frankie Gavin (17-0, 12KOs) won a lackluster twelve round unanimous decision over veteran David Barnes (27-3-2, 11KOs). The scores were 118-111, 117-112 and 118-112. There wasn't much action and Gavin used his boxing ability, without taking  many chances, to win the rounds. Barnes himself was very defensive and not taking many chances himself.

UNDERCARD

Unbeaten prospect Frank Buglioni (10-0, 7KO) scored a second round stoppage of Czech journeyman Bronislav Kubin.

The bout's sudden ending is a continuation of the career of referee Phil Edwards, who continues to officiate as if he's double-parked in a tow-away zone. On its own, there was no cause for the plug to be pulled so early on the night. The lack of protest from the public, however, is in part due to the marathon manner in which the BoxNation telecast was presented, with nearly the entire card televised and a number of bouts going the distance.

George Kean (1-0) enjoyed a successful pro debut with a four-round decision over Rick Boulter (1-38-3). The former amateur star dominated the entire affair, scoring a late knockdown to put an exclamation point on a shutout scored 40-35 in his favor.

Russian middleweight Dmitry Chudinov (11-0-2, 7KOs) won an easy eight round decision over veteran Max Maxwell (16-26-3, 3KOs). Chudinov outworked Maxwell and landed the harder punches. The sole score was 79-73.

For the vacant WBO Inter-Continental super flyweight title, Paul Butler (13-0, 7KOs) won a twelve round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Miguel Gonzalez (17-1, 5KOs). The scores were 119-110, 120-108, 117-112. Not much action, but Butler outboxed Gonzalez in most of the rounds.

In a battle for the Commonwealth and WBO International super featherweight titles, Liam Walsh (15-0, 10KOs) won the battle of unbeatens over Joe Murray (14-1, 5KOs). Walsh edged a tough grueling fight to win a twelve round majority decision. The scores 116-112, 116-113, 114-114. Murray got off well and had the better of the action in the first half, but Walsh came back with a fury in the sixth and seventh, drilling the body of Murray and taking over the action down the stretch.
