Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. believes the Mexican fans are backing him to knock off Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

The two Mexican superstars are scheduled to collide on May 6th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. A catch-weight of 164.5-pounds is in place, with Canelo jumping up from 154 and Chavez Jr. moving down from 168.

Chavez Jr. is training hard at the Otomi Ceremonial Center in Mexico with Hall of Fame coach Nacho Beristain and conditioning trainer Angel "Memp" Heredia.

Chavez Jr. feels the Mexican fans have turned on Canelo, because they are angered with his decision to continuously delay a potential mega-bout with IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight king Gennady Golovkin.

He feels strongly that Canelo has used contractual clauses, like catch-weights, to place most of his opponents at a disadvantage on fight night.

"[My team] tells me they want me to win. Canelo has his people. What he's said and done has taken away a lot from him. Not to fight with Golovkin, his silly statements [on why he didn't fight GGG], he threw the rope around his own neck. People are now leaning in my favor. I'm more sincere. I've fought better opponents," Chavez Jr. said.

"Winning is the important thing. I will continue with my father's legacy. I want it to be bigger, to be historical. To be champion, after my dad was the best of Mexico. He made me a great fighter. It would be good for Mexican boxing. Canelo is disciplined and more consistent, but he always faces fighters where the circumstance are always in his favor."

"I feel good. We have worked hard. When I fractured my hand I was not been able to train. But right now, physically and mentally, I'm in top form. People want to see a fight and I'll give them a good one."
