Charles Conwell’s clash with Patrick Day was originally budgeted for his second straight appearance at Madison Square Garden.

The 2016 U.S. Olympian and rising junior middleweight prospect instead had to wait another week and travel to a different city in order to post his most significant win to date.

What was supposed to be the most competitive male fight of the night turned into a showcase performance for Conwell, flooring Day three times en route to a 10th round stoppage Saturday evening at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Illinois.

Conwell, a promising 21-year old talent from Toledo, Ohio, floored Day in rounds four, eight and ten, the last of the three producing the conclusive ending.

The action threatened to live up to the pre-fight hype, with both boxers offering a high octane performance right from the opening bell. Day—a 2012 U.S. Olympic alternate—sought to put his height and reach advantage to good use, but his physical dimensions proved to be no match for Conwell’s aggressive attack. A left hook by Conwell drove Day to the ropes late in round one, setting the tone for what would come for most of the night.

Conwell continued with the same mode of attack, working his way inside no matter the game plan applied by Day, who ran through the entire playbook in his best efforts to turn the tide. The Freeport (Long Island), New York native moved side to side, working his jab in hopes of keeping Conwell on the outside. The tactic just didn’t take as Conwell made his power felt, scoring a flash knockdown late in round four.

Day would have his moments in each round but never to the point of swinging momentum in his favor or even keeping a determined Conwell at bay. Even in his best round of the fight, Day’s efforts in round eight went all for naught as a right hand sent him to the canvas for the second time on the night.

His third and final trip to the deck not only ended his night, but caused immediate concern for his health. A sweeping left hook by Conwell, preceded by a right hand to the back of the ear, put Day flat on his back, with the fight stopped on the stop.

The official time was 1:46 of round ten.

Day (17-4-1, 6KOs)—who has now lost two straight—was on the canvas for several minutes before being carried out on a stretcher by the ringside medical staff. DAZN's Claudia Trejos reported that Day was unconscious and suffered from a seizure as he was being rushed to the hospital.

Conwell advances to 11-0 (8KOs) with the win, by far his most impressive in the pro ranks even if one which he will understandably not celebrate until his opponent's health hopefully improves.

The bout took place on the undercard of Oleksandr Usyk’s heavyweight debut, as the 2018 Fighter of the Year and former World cruiserweight champion faces late replacement Chazz Witherspoon.
