Mexico has a new super middleweight player in the mix, with unbeaten Mario Cazares (12-0, 5 KOs).

This past Friday, Cazares outworked former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. to a six round unanimous technical decision win in Tijuana.

The fight was stopped early because Chavez Jr. sustained a cut above his left eye. He claimed the cut came from a head clash and the referee believed him - which sent the contest to the scorecards early.

But Cazares, who felt he was very close to securing a knockout victory, claims it was a right uppercut that opened up the cut.

Cazares, 30-years-old, now wants to move on to bigger and better things.

He started his pro career late and was waiting for the opportunity to secure a fight that put his name out there to the public. That's why Cazares moved up to light heavyweight to take the Chavez Jr. fight.

And now he's willing to provide Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez with the opportunity to get revenge.

When they were amateur boxers, Cazares defeated Canelo in the 2004 National Olympiad in Mexico.

"Canelo, I left you crying once, now I'm going to put you asleep," Cazares said.

"I'm going to knock off his freckles, they're going to be scattered in the ring and I'm going to tell a janitor to lend a dustpan to his coach, Eddy Reinoso, to pick up the freckles.

"I am a natural 168 pounder, but with 'Canelo we would fight in whatever division that he wants. I am not going to put conditions because whatever weight it is, we are going to beat him. I am interested in knocking off the freckles on Canelo and that Reynoso will pick them up. This (victory over Chavez) meant the birth of a new profile, with the right life, with values ??and leadership. We must be an example because society responds well to examples."
