Pound-for-pound lists are getting a bit overstated nowadays. Everyone has one. And, more times than not, they vary to a certain degree. Caleb Plant, of course, has his own thoughts when it comes to those arbitrary rankings.

Being known as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters on the planet is important but Plant believes that there’s a lot that goes into it. Accolades are a heavy influencer. So is the level of competition that you ultimately face. But while he won’t deny most of the names that are on those lists, Plant would rather put together his own index of fighters centering around a different criteria.

Accomplishments are somewhat extraneous. Instead, Plant (22-2, 13 KOs) sifted through every division and carefully analyzed every fighter's attributes. After doing so, he believes that he’s put together the top five most skillful fighters in all of boxing.

“I think Terence Crawford has gotta be on the list,” Plant told Million Dollaz Worth of Game. “Canelo has gotta be on the list, Shakur’s gotta be on the list. I think Usyk has to probably be on the list.”

Several of you might be a bit bemused as to what you just read. Crawford, Canelo Alvarez, Shakur Stevenson, and Oleksandr Usyk are all top-of-the-line fighters but last time we checked, that number only amounts to four.

Plant is a smart man and one who likes to make things a bit dramatic. He thought long and hard before making his final selection. Naoya Inoue, the former undisputed and current unified champion was worthy of being selected. So was Gervonta Davis, Tyson Fury, and Dmitry Bivol. But while those aforementioned names are all deserving, Plant decided that he wasn’t in the mood to be humble.

“I gotta be on the list,” continued Plant. “I know my skills are crazy.”
