Trevor Bryan insists he never would’ve accepted the type of knockout defeat Daniel Dubois has on his record.

Bryan contends that he would’ve kept fighting against Joe Joyce, no matter how much damage was done to the area around his eye. Severe swelling surrounding his left eye made Dubois take a knee during the 10th round against Joyce.

The London native couldn’t see any of Joyce’s jarring jabs coming by that point, thus he declined to continue in a 12-round bout Dubois was winning on two scorecards 18 months ago at Church House in London. Dubois (17-1, 16 KOs) suffered a fractured orbital bone around his left eye, but Bryan believes he could’ve continued.

“He quit, man,” Bryan told BoxingScene.com. “I’d rather this motherf----- knock me out! Knock me out on my shield. Then there’s nothing else for me to say after that. You see what I’m saying?”

Bryan predicted that he, too, will make Dubois “quit” when they square off Saturday in Miami for Bryan’s WBA world heavyweight title. Caesars Sportsbook has installed Dubois as a 14-1 favorite over Bryan, even though Bryan is an unbeaten titleholder.

Bryan (22-0, 15 KOs), of Schenectady, New York, views this 12-round fight as his opportunity to finally prove himself against a young, hard-hitting opponent who was targeted for stardom before Joyce (13-0, 12 KOs) stopped him.

Bryan’s best win to date was an 11th-round stoppage of former WBC champ Bermane Stiverne in January 2021. Stiverne was 42 at that time, though, and had been knocked out in back-to-back bouts by another ex-WBC champ, Deontay Wilder, and Joyce.

“It would make a big statement for me to knock this guy out,” Bryan said in reference to Dubois. “But, I mean, I already know this guy’s coming in swinging. He’s an amateur. He’s coming in swinging with big punches, and it’s gonna take more than that. But I plan to drown this guy. I mean, if I call it for myself, I’ll call it in either seven or eight. And he’ll be going right back on his knees, where he’s comfortable, where he’s used to being at, and quitting in the seventh or eighth round, something like that. Because I’m gonna drown this man with jabs and I’m gonna take him out.”

Bryan, 32, and Dubois, 24, will square off in the 12-round main event of a pay-per-view show that’ll be streamed live by www.donking.com and www.itube247.com. Coverage from Casino Miami will begin at 4 p.m. ET in the United States and costs $29.99.

BT Sport 1 will televise this card live in the United Kingdom and Ireland, starting at 7 p.m. BST.
