Adrien Broner thinks the toughest test for Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis in the lightweight division is the southpaw out of Newark.

Broner, the multi-division champion from Cincinnati, Ohio, was recently asked about how a potential fight between Baltimore’s Davis and Shakur Stevenson would play out. Broner, who is close friends with Davis, refrained from offering a purely partisan opinion, saying that he thinks Stevenson is the one fighter who would give Davis the most “difficult time” in the ring.

“If I had to—I mean it’s not a mystery,” Broner told FightHubTV during a press conference in Omaha, Nebraska, to announce his Feb. 18 fight against Ivan Redkach. “In my opinion, Shakur Stevenson would be the most difficult fight for Tank, but Tank but what it takes to figure out any fighter, he’s got what it takes to adjust, to do what he got to do to get the victory … Shakur Stevenson would  probably be the one that give him the most difficult time in the ring.”

The lightweight division is regarded as one of the top weightclasses in the sport. In addition to Stevenson and Davis, the division also boasts the likes of undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney, Vasiliy Lomachenko, and Ryan Garcia.

A Davis-Stevenson fight, despite its appeal, would not be a simple match-up to make since both fighters are backed by rival promotional and network entities. Stevenson is backed by Top Rank. while Davis is baked by Premier Boxing Champions.

Stevenson, a two-division titlist, recently moved up to the 135-pound division after struggling to make weight in his last fight, a 130-pound title unification defense against Robson Conceicao; Stevenson was stripped of his title because he failed to make the 130-pound mark at the weigh-in.

Davis, meanwhile, has a fight with Hector Luis Garcia on Jan. 7 at Capitol One Arena in Washington D.C. Should Davis come out victorious in that fight, he is expected to go up against fellow lightweight attraction Ryan Garcia in a highly anticipated 136-pound bout in April. Both fighters announced several weeks ago that they had come to an agreement.
