Both Caleb Plant and David Benavidez have fulminated in the public eye for the better part of the past five years. But while they jawed back and forth, the pair continued to go in opposite directions. Now, having crossed their t’s and dotted the i’s during negotiations, the two will officially square off on March 25th, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Plant, before running into the cataclysmic power of Canelo Alvarez, boxed circles around his foes, leading to a spotless record and a world title reign. However, the newly turned 30-year-old believed that in order to take his career to the next level, a change of sorts was needed.

So, in an effort to continue his development, Plant (22-1, 13 KOs) enlisted the help of world-renowned trainer, Stephen “Breadman” Edwards. So far, the results have been spectacular as Plant left Anthony Dirrell staring up at the ceiling lights during their October of 2022 showdown.

Although Edwards buoyantly embraced Plant following his violent knockout victory, the Philadelphia-based trainer isn't placing the focal point of their current training camp on re-enacting those same results. Considering that Benavidez has a penchant for his own bloodthirsty finishes, Edwards is equipping his fighter with an endless array of tools to deal with whatever he brings to the table.

“It depends,” said Edwards to FightHype.com when asked if he expects Plant to show off some of his power. “The goal is to win the fight. We have different adjustments in place. We got a plan a, plan b, plan c. The goal is just to win the fight.”

Benavidez, 25, has pushed his chips to the center of the table following a heated presser earlier this week. With six consecutive stoppage victories, including most recently against David Lemieux to snag the WBC interim super middleweight crown, Benavidez (26-0, 23 KOs) has promised to make Plant another victim.

Ultimately, the pushing, hollering, and curse-filled tirades are being ignored by team Plant. From Edwards’ perspective, things will take care of themselves as long as Plant ignores the outside noise.

“March 25th, just gotta stay focused, that’s all.”
