It goes without saying that David Benavidez and Caleb Plant do not like one another.

That doesn’t mean the entire training camp or even the fight itself will be fueled by hatred.

“The only personal part of it that will come out of me is in training and during the press conferences,” Benavidez told BoxingScene.com. “You won’t see anything personal come out of me during the fight.”

There have been a lot of personal insults hurled between camps in the buildup leading into their long-anticipated grudge match. The two had to be separated numerous times during their February 2 announcement press conference in Los Angeles for their March 25 Showtime Pay-Per-View headliner from MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Still, it’s been all business for Benavidez (26-0, 23KOs) and his team during an intense training camp in the greater Seattle area. The former two-time WBC super middleweight titlist and current interim titleholder has put in the work with young guns Diego Pacheco (17-0, 14KOs) and Daniel Blancas (5-0, 3KOs) to keep him hungry for the biggest fight of his career to date.

Of course, still on the horizon is a Vegas fight week that figures to generate plenty of heat. However, Benavidez is well aware of what wins press conferences and what is required to win the only fight that matters, in the ring.

“You have to be smart, you have to follow a game plan. Maybe the personal part will come out once I get him hurt and I drop him,” suggested Benavidez, who has stopped his last six opponents. “That’s when it will get personal.

“But I got a solid mindset for this camp. We gotta be smart about everything. Once we have him past that point of no return, then we can get personal with it and really make him pay for all the shit he’s been talking. But the only way to get there is to follow the game plan, be strong minded and not let anything throw us off track.”
