On the 6th of July, WBO light middleweight champion Zaurbek Baysangurov (28-1, 20 KOs) of Russia, but fighting out of Kiev, Ukraine, aims to defend his title against former supreme amateur Demetrius Andrade, 2007 WC champion, who is still undefeated as a pro (19-0, 13 KOs), in his adopted hometown. Baysangurov is now in his training camp in Big Bear, California, under the tutelage of famed coach Abel Sanchez. Zaur’s brother Salambek, who is also his coach’s assistant, was very confident regarding Baysangurov’s preparations.

“Everything is going very smoothly. Zaur has been training hard from his first day in the gym. Now he is in his third week of sparring sessions. He was training with Gilberto Ramirez, Christopher Pearson and some other very competent fighters. Now we are aiming to lower his load of exercises and daily gym work to get his 200% ready for the Andrade fight. We have changed some nuances because of Demetrius’ style of fighting. Right now, our main goal is to make all the movements, all the feints automatic. Zaur has never been any better. He is now at the peak of his power”, said Salambek.
