Boxxer CEO Ben Shalom, who promotes heavyweight contender Martin Bakole, says a rematch with Michael Hunter is certainly a possibility.

Bakole was in action back in April, when he picked up a third-round stoppage victory over Ihor Shevadzutskyi in Poland. It was Bakole's first fight since securing an upset win over Olympic gold medal winner Tony Yoka in May 2022.

At the moment, Bakole is ranked at number 2 by the WBA, but his rise in the rankings is stalled because of other boxers not scheduling their fights.

"It's difficult when the other heavyweights aren't fighting because it stalls the whole division," Shalom told Sky Sports.

"When you're No 2 in the governing body and you look up at No 1 and he's not fighting, and the champion is not fighting and the regular champion isn't fighting it's hard."

Hunter has been out of the ring since bagging a split decision draw against Jerry Forrest in December 2021.

He's had a few fights scheduled, like Hughie Fury last summer, but the bouts have been canceled for one reason or another.

Back in 2018, Hunter handed Bakole his only career defeat with a stoppage in the tenth. Bakole has since bounced back with eight wins in a row.

Another possible option for Bakole is a showdown with former WBO world champion Joseph Parker.

"Joseph Parker is another good fight for him, whilst he waits for the heavyweight champions to start moving," added Shalom.

"We can't move if they aren't going to fight. I wish sometimes the governing bodies went 'bang', but obviously there's a lot of money involved. I know Michael Hunter wants that fight, I like Michael and I'd love to give him that opportunity. We'll sit down with Martin and think look at a final eliminator for the WBA title and we'll see."
