Earlier this month, a potential fight between Manny Pacquiao and Amir Khan fell apart.

There were investors that promised a financial package of $38 million to Pacquiao, and his adviser Michael Koncz, for a fight in the UAE with Khan.

Last month the two boxers were able to reach an agreement for the fight. A date of April 23 [April 22 in the United States] was announced in UAE, but then it was moved to mid-May.

But then a big problem came up. The investors were unable to come up with the promised funds to finance a Pacquiao-Khan event in the Middle East.

According to Pacquaio's promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank, the possibility of that fight "is dead" for the first half of the year, but the veteran promoter wants to explore that match for a date in the fall.

At the moment Arum is negotiating a deal where Pacquiao would fight again on a date in June or July. A proposal was sent to Pacquiao and Arum is waiting to hear back from the eight division world champion.

"That fight (against Khan) can't happen," Arum told ABS CBS News. "Because the people who were putting on the money were not able to. Hopefully, that fight can happen in November."

"Meanwhile, I'm talking to Manny about an interim-fight in the summer, and I'm waiting to hear back from him."

As far as where Pacquiao's next fight will take place, Arum says that particular detail is still up in the air.

"I don't know yet where it will be," said Arum. "We are discussing various places, but obviously, the fight finances is always there as part of making the fight, so that's not a problem."

Prior to the deal with Khan, there was a deal in place for Pacquiao to fight 2012 Australian Olympian Jeff Horn (16-0-1, 11 KOs). There is still a strong possibility of that fight happening next.
