Former unified heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz is planning to return to the ring in 2024.

Last Saturday night in Saudi Arabia, Ruiz was ringside for the big 'Day of Reckoning' event.

Several top heavyweights were on the card, including Frank Sanchez, Filip Hrgovic, Agit Kabayel, Deontay Wilder, Joseph Parker, Otto Wallin, Daniel Dubois, Jarrell Miller, and Anthony Joshua.

Ruiz has been very inactive in recent years, with only two fights since suffering a twelve round decision loss in his rematch with Joshua in 2019.

He bounced back in 2021 with a twelve round decision win over Chris Arreola. And then his last fight, in September of 2022, he won a tough twelve round decision over Luis Ortiz.

Since late last year, there was talk of a final WBC eliminator clash with Wilder. The WBC ordered the two boxers to collide, but their negotiations never took off. Wilder and his handlers claimed Ruiz was demanding an unrealistic sum of money for the fight.

A similar claim was made by Frank Warren, promoter for WBC champion Tyson Fury. Warren tried to secure Ruiz for a fall date with Fury. The veteran promoter would later reveal that Ruiz priced himself out.

Ruiz, 34-years-old, is planning to make another division run in the coming year.

"I need to get ready. I feel really good,," Ruiz told TNT Sports. "In 2024, we're coming back.

“I had surgery on my right shoulder, so I already had two months preparing and recovering. I need two more months and I'll be ready to go next year. I need to check out all the opponents and need to get ready. In 2024 is when it's going to go down.”
