Former world champion Alberto "El Explosivo" Machado still does not know what his future will be in the sport of boxing.

Back on June 1, the Puerto Rican boxer traveled to Canada and was blasted out by local fighter Steve Claggett in three rounds.

Two years back, Machado was knocked out in the sixth round of a fire fight with Angel Fierro.

After his latest setback, Machado's career is now on the ropes.

"Definitely things didn't go as expected to get a victory, but I can't say if I'm prepared to say what will happen to my career. I am happy and grateful with everything I have been able to do so far," Machado told Carlos Gonzalez.

Machado won his first title in 2017 when he knocked out Jezzrel Corrales to become the World Boxing Association (WBA) champion. He successfully defended it twice. In 2019 he lost it to Andrew Cancio and was also knocked out in the rematch.

“I was world champion and I exceeded my expectations. It is too early to make a decision. Emotionally I feel like a millionaire, beyond economics. I have a family and 2017 and 2018 were great years for me. It opened my eyes beyond boxing. This time I wanted to give myself one more chance like before, but as for my future, I don't know what I will do," Machado said.

Machado did not specify if the next thing he does will be linked to boxing.

“It may be yes or it may be no. I would say it is more not. I have been linked to boxing for two decades to maintain my image and I'm not closing any door. I believe that by August or September it will be known what my next move will be. I was a young man who came out of public housing and exceeded expectations. I got over on my own and I did it. I feel happy, but until today I am still analyzing it," Machado said.
