One of boxing’s best prospects produced another tantalizing victory Thursday in Las Vegas.

Abdullah Mason scored two knockdowns and knocked out Benjamin Gurment in the second round of their scheduled eight-round bout on the Teofimo Lopez-Jamaine Ortiz undercard at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino’s Michelob ULTRA Arena. The 19-year-old lightweight from Cleveland displayed diverse offensive skills during their brief bout, improved to 12-0 and produced his 10th knockout.

Referee Harvey Dock officially stopped the one-sided action at 1:29 of the second round, as soon as Gurment went down for the second time. Gurment, of Fort Worth, Texas, lost for the first time as a pro (8-1-3, 5 KOs).

Mason stunned Gurment with a left hand and then landed another left that knocked Gurment into a corner barely a minute into the second round. An off-balance Gurment used the ropes to hold himself up, which counted as the first knockdown.

The game Gurment continued, but Mason nailed him with another left to the side of his head that knocked Gurment to his side. Dock quickly moved in to wave an end to their fight.

Mason backed Gurment into the ropes with just under a minute to go in the first round and landed overhand lefts as Gurment attempted to cover up. Mason clipped Gurment with a right hook as part of a combination 45 seconds into the opening round.
