French super welterweight Zakaria Attou, 27-6-2, has been stripped of the EBU title. Attou was all set defend the title on September 29 in Torrelavega, Spain, against Sergio Garcia, 27-0.

However, he was cut in sparring on the scalp and the injury needed several stitches and he was told by the doctor to take three weeks off.

For the promoter, Maravillabox, this would have meant a postponement of what probably is their biggest fight of the year and as it was the EBU went with Maravillabox and Attou was stripped of the title.

Maravillabox, found this weekend a substitute in Maxime Beaussire, 27-1, also from France, and a former EU titleholder whose only loss came against Attou.

As for Attou he learned that he was an ex-champ through social media and is of course totally unhappy with the situation.
