A few days have passed since his big knockout victory, Yoelvis Gomez (5-0, 5 KOs) has already returned to the gym.

The son of the legendary Cuban Olympic champion, Jose Gomez, the boxer that many of his know as "La Joya" blew away Clay Collard in one round on Saturday night -on Christmas night - as part of a televised card on FOX,

Gomez is training hard with veteran coach Ismael Salas.

“Yes, there is no time to waste. We must be 100 percent ready in case another fight comes along the way. I want to make my career more active. I didn't fight for a while due to immigration problems, but I'm back now and I don't want to be inactive," Gomez told George Ebro.

"The plan was to work with the right hand, go after the body and throw head shots. We wanted to throw punches to hurt him, if it was early, fine, if it was late, that's fine too. Everybody told me that Collard had a good chin. I said that he was going to try and see if he could finish the fight quickly. I've been studying from the gym, In sparring we study, with professor Ismael Salas we study. Salas calls me and says he wanted to see me work on my distance, but if he hurt him ... I should rip his head off.

"[The win] was impressive. They say I have no defense ... I ignore those comments, I ignore them. I have a lot to learn. So I went back to the gym. I already forget about this fight and will focus on the next one."

Gomez explained why he started his career in Mexico - which he credits with teaching him new skills and tactics.

“In Mexico I learned many good things. I went through a lot of sparring, trainers, experiences. I learned what it is to give a show, which is the main thing, because the fans pay to see that. I learned to throw various punches that are not used in Cuba," Gomez said.
