AT&T Center, San Antonio, Texas - Anthony Yigit (24-2-1, 8 KOs) fought for the first time in over two years, and he was five pounds overweight at Friday's weigh-in, but he tried to do his best to halt the unbeaten run of rising contender Rolando “Rolly” Romero (14-0, 12 KOs).

Yigit was unable to deal with the power of Romero, who scored three knockdowns to pull out a knockout victory in the seventh round.

Romero, who holds the WBA's interim-world lightweight title, came out firing with a lot of power in the first round.

“I knew he was going to come in strong and kind of force it,” said Yigit. “So, I tried to pace myself at the beginning to see where I had him. He was very aggressive and he knew how to utilize all his strengths. Fair play to him.”

Romero lost a point in the fifth for his roughhouse tactics, but then he scored a knockdown that had Yigit in serious trouble. The round ended before Romero could follow up.

As the fight played out in the sixth, Romero continued to control the action as Yigit seemed to recover.

During the seventh, Romero closed the show when he dropped Yigit with a three punch-combination. He followed things up with a big left hook to floor Yigit for a third time - which forced referee Rafael Ramos to stop the fight at 1:54 of the round.

“I wouldn’t mind doing it again,” said Yigit. “He was a tough opponent and I liked the fight we were having. There is some kind of mutual respect in the ring and I felt that from him. So, it felt great knowing that I went in the ring and we respected each other and gave it the best we had.”
