Sergio 'Yeyo' Thompson remains in the hunt for another shot at a super featherweight title, following a well-earned 10-round points win over Adones Aguelo. Scores were 97-92 and 96-93 (twice) for Thompson in their Fox Deportes/Televisa-televised headliner Saturday evening in Quintana Roo, Mexico.

It seems that Thompson is incapable of being in a disinteresting fight. His latest ring appearance was no exception, as his blatant disregard for defense always leaves a sliver of hope for his opponent. For that reason, Aguelo enjoyed moments of success over the course of the 10-round affair.

When Thompson dug in deep and went to work, he showed why he belongs on the contender. A dominant round six sealed the deal for an eventual win, with Thompson putting on a power punching display. A right uppercut put Aguelo on his heels, as he was eventually beaten to the canvas for the bout's lone knockdown.

Thompson never stopped swinging for the fences, but in the end had to settle for a clear decision win. The crowd on hand erupted when the scores were read, as Thompson picks up his third straight win following last summer's failed title bid versus 130 lb. champ Takashi Miura.

Overall, Thompson improves to 30-3 (26KOs), having now been forced to go the full distance in three of his past four bouts. Aguelo falls to 21-10-2 (13KOs). The 26-year old Filipino has just one win in his current four-fight road trip, including two losses in Mexico this year, having dropped a decision to Nery Saguilan earlier this year.

In the televised co-feature, Luis May scored a 10-round decision over Daniel Noriega in an entertaining bantamweight battle. Scores were 98-92 (twice) and 99-91 in favor of May, who improves to 15-7-1 (7KOs). His last lost came to current 122 lb. contender Cesar Seda.
