Former undisputed junior middleweight champion Winky Wright is backing IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin to overcome Canelo Alvarez in their upcoming rematch.

They fought to a controversial twelve round draw in September 2017.

The rematch is going down during Mexican Independence Day weekend, on September 15th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Wright believes Golovkin needed several rounds to get himself going in the first contest.

But once he did get going, Wright saw Golovkin doing his usual business and controlling the pace of the fight.

With both fighters promising to take a lot more chances this time around, Wright would not be surprised if one of them got knocked out.

"It was a good fight the first fight. I think Golovkin won. I think that Canelo is a smart boxer and he’s going to try to come back and capitalize. But I also think that was Golovkin’s first big mega fight and it took him a few rounds to get really on track, but once he did, he started pushing Canelo and doing what he normally does. If they fight again, somebody could get knocked out because both fighters are going to take chances now," Wright told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.

As far the outcome, there are many experts who are siding with Canelo this time around - despite many of them scoring the first bout for Golovkin.

Golovkin has looked more vulnerable as of late, and he's already 36-years-old. But Canelo has been inactive since their first contest - and he'll need a much stronger performance to win in September.

Wright felt Golovkin did enough the first time around, and he's backing him to win the second time around.

"I would still have to favor Golovkin. I like both fighters, I think both fighters are tremendous fighters but if I had to put my money on someone, I would put it on GGG," Wright said.
